For the constrained modulus method, there are now two methods available for generating the soil layer from the boreholes.
1. Internally according to the Soilin solution in RFEM 5. The soil layer below each surface element to be analyzed is approximated internally from the boreholes. This solution corresponds to the procedure already used in RFEM 5 in the RF-SOILIN add-on module to determine the soil layer. This solution requires less calculation time during meshing. However, the determined layer interfaces are not visible.
2. By generating and meshing 3D solids. From the boreholes, the soil layer is created by generating the soil solids, as for the 3D solution, with NURBS surfaces as layer interfaces. The soil solids are visible and are meshed. The 3D elements are not calculated. Only the soil material is extracted from them. This solution requires more calculation time during meshing. The determined layer boundary surfaces are visible.The selection is given by activating or deactivating the “Generate soil solids” option. See Image 1 or 2.
