The material model 'Orthotropic | Anisotropic Damage' combines plastic and fracture mechanics approaches, thus enabling special modeling of brittle materials with anisotropic characteristics, such as timber or textile reinforced concrete.
When the material yields, the stresses remain constant. A redistribution takes place depending on the stiffnesses present in the individual directions. The elastic range corresponds to the material model 'Orthotropic | Linear Elastic (Solid)'. Once the fracture mechanics parameters are reached, a prediction of emerging cracks is made.
The crack analysis is carried out using a smeared crack over the finite elements. When a failure component is reached, the corresponding stiffness is progressively reduced until it is close to zero.
This makes it possible to detect exactly whether a crack occurs and how it propagates.
